Networking Information

In computer networking a Media Access Control address (MAC address) twelve digit alpha-numeric unique identifier attached to most network devices (cable modems, Ethernet cards, routers, etc). It is like a fingerprint for the device which identifies it to the network.

Your ISP uses the MAC address of modems in order to recognize which modems have authorization to access their Internet services. If you decide to use a different cable modem, you will not be able to access the Internet again until you notify your ISP of the new modem's MAC address.
